Ashburton United Newsletter: November 22

President’s Message
 Thanks for another great year

As another year winds down and we rush towards the Summer break, I wanted to say thank you to all our players, members and sponsors for supporting our club this year.

It was great to see so many happy players of all ages running around kicking a ball again after the challenges of the Covid interrupted seasons.

To some extent the club is still recovering after the cancellation of the past two seasons. Yet despite the challenges, this year we were delighted to field more than 65 teams, from our Mini Roos to our golden oldie Masters, and pretty much every age group in between, plus futsal, Go Sevens and in school programs!

We enjoyed plenty of on field successes this year too. We were very proud of our teams who won their leagues this year, but a particular highlight for me was the formation of our Women’s Over 35s Masters team. They have already developed a great culture and now have enough players to form two teams!

Providing a place for everyone to play remains our priority and next year we plan to run an All Abilities team, which I’m personally very passionate about. I look forward to sharing more information in coming months.

Monday 21 November is our AGM. While this is an important event on the club calendar, it will have extra significance this year as we will release a summary of the club’s new strategic plan.

On top of our agenda is the quest to improve our facilities and grounds. You have told us that this is an area that needs to be improved and we now have a plan in place to work with Council and Government to start making these changes happen. It won’t happen overnight, but the wheels are in motion!

Finally, I want to encourage all our members to get down and support the AUSC Charity Shield on Saturday 19th November. This is an important event as it’s an opportunity for us to give back to the community and raise funds for a local organisation, Camcare. It also promises to be a lot of fun! More information is in this newsletter.

Thanks again for supporting our club in 2022. If I don’t see you beforehand, then and I wish you and your families a very merry and safe hoilday season.

Ray

AUSC Charity Shield

Calling all Ashy players, coaches, team managers, parents and supporters!

Each year our club runs the AUSC Charity Shield – and you’re invited!

This year’s event is on Saturday 19 November, between 9.00am – 12.30pm at Camberwell High School on Prospect Hill Road.

It’s an opportunity for our community to join together, have some fun and generate funds for a worthy local charity. This year we are raising funds for Camcare.

The highlight of the day is the charity game at 11am, featuring our senior women’s and men’s teams, golden oldies from our Masters teams, as well as players from our U14-16 squads.

We’re also running a MinRoos World Cup (U8-U13) and an all ages Soccer Volleyball game.

Along the way we’ll be joined by a ‘mystery’ Melbourne Victory Player – more details to come! There will also be a boot swap, a breakfast bbq and coffee cart.

Everyone is invited, so come along with your team mates or bring your family and friends. It promises to be a lot fun!

Annual General Meeting

All Ashburton members are invited to attend our club’s AGM on Monday 21 November, at 7.00pm.

The meeting is at the Ashburton Community Centre, at 160 High Street, Ashburton.

The AGM is an opportunity to hear about the Club’s activities in 2022, meet with members and learn about the future plans for the Club.

We are also calling for nominations for a number of Committee roles. Please contact our Club Secretary, Melissa Butler (secretary@ashburtonsoccer.com.au) for more information on Committee roles and how to get involved. In line with our constitution, self-nomination is not possible.

Nomination forms are available on the club website or here.

Ashy futsal kicks on!
After two years of Covid interruptions, it’s been great to get our junior futsal back up and running again.
Junior futsal has kicked off on Sundays, while our Kick Off Kids program is also underway.Meanwhile our senior competition continues on Wednesday evenings at the Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre.

In senior news, we’ve just finished the Winter season and we’re now inviting teams to nominate to play in our Summer competition.

Congratulations to our Winter champs this year:
Division 1: The Jets;                     Division 2: Boca Seniors

AUSC Business Community Lunch
Ashy held its inaugural Business Community Lunch in October.

It was an opportunity to build networks, thank sponsors and learn from leaders in a relaxed social setting.

We had two great guest speakers – Aaron Fitzgerald, COO Grill’d and Damien Fleming, media commentator and former Australian cricketer, with the event expertly managed by gun MC, Michael Pope.

And best of all, they’re all Ashy locals!
A big thanks to everyone who supported the event
Keep an eye out for more Ashy events and opportunities to connect with other club members

A little bit about us – we first opened our doors in February 1978 in Queensbury Street North Melbourne, where we have been servicing and repairing Automatic Transmission for over 44 years.

We have grown to one of the largest independent transmission rebuilders in Australia, but kept our original philosophy of always being honest with our service and importantly at the most reasonable price.

Our customers keep coming back for that reason and now we even look after their next generation.
