Ashy Announces Senior Coaching Panel for 2018

Daniel Puscasu and Tony Amato1 SmallAshburton United is pleased to confirm that Daniel ‘Costi’ Puscasu will be joined by Tony Amato as the club’s joint senior coach in 2018. In addition to the co-coaching position, Costi’s success leading Ashburton in 2017 has been rewarded with an additional Technical Director role with the senior club, where he will oversee the transition of younger players into senior ranks. Meanwhile Tony joins Ashburton after a long playing career and several years as senior coach of Riversdale.
The appointment formally re-unites two friends who have a long history working together, including most recently at the All Nation’s Cup. While both Costi and Tony will share training and match day responsibilities, Costi will also take a broader, strategic focus on developing the long-term success of the senior club while Tony will focus predominantly on the immediate requirements of the senior squad.
In additional positive news, Ashburton is very pleased to announce that Fernando Hompart will continue as the club’s Reserve coach in 2018.
Fernando had considerable success transforming the reserve squad into title contenders and his wider contribution around the club this year was recognised with the Ashburton Volunteer Award.
Costi, Tony and Fernando form Ashburton’s senior coaching panel for next season.
The club is very well placed to build on its achievements this year and planning is already underway for a successful 2018.
Further information about pre-season will be announced in coming weeks.

Men's and Women's Senior Teams Finish Season

state 3 GalsMen seniors v DingleyAshburton’s men and women’s seniors teams finished their seasons over the weekend, with each team featuring in the promotion play-offs.
In some great news to finish the year, Ashy’s State 3 women’s team has won promotion – without even kicking a ball! Incredibly, the Brandon Park opposition forfeited, gifting ‘Smashburton’ promotion into State 2. Congratulations to our ladies and super coach Adam Steele on a wonderful season.
Unfortunately our men’s first team lost its promotion play-off in the cruelest of fashion, going down on penalties after extra time. Up against Dingley who were playing to maintain their place in the league above Ashburton, nothing could separate the teams after 120 minutes of grueling football, with the score locked at 2-2. Despite the defeat, our boys can hold their heads high having secured the League Runners-Up position and having gone undefeated in their last eight games. Congratulations to Senior Coach Costi and all the players.

Ashy Seniors Secure Runner-up in State League 4

seniors after wfinishing second 1Our senior team has capped off a fantastic year by claiming the Runner-up position in State League 4 East and a chance to win promotion in the play-offs.

Needing a point in the last game of the season, Ashy had to battle hard against Healesville in very difficult conditions but got the desired result in a battling 2-2 draw.

This Saturday the boys take on the Runners-Up in State League 4 South, Springvale City, in an elimination play-off at Casey Comets ground in Cranbourne at 3.30pm

Ashy’s reserve team capped off a great year by securing third place, just one point behind second spot.

Pleasingly, the youthful squad featured plenty of Ashy juniors who are transitioning into senior football.

Elsewhere, our two Sunday Thirds teams also finished their respective seasons, recording a few highly memorable wins and remaining highly competitive throughout the year.

Back-to-Back Championships for Ashy Athletic

ashy athleticOne of our two Over 45s team, Ashburton Athletic, has won the league for the second year in a row.

Needing a win in the last game of the season, the Athletes got the job done, winning 2-1 away against Juventus Old Boys.

In third place a few weeks ago, Ashy stormed home with 4 wins in a row to claim the senior club’s first ever back-to-back championships by just one point.

After singing the club song with gusto, talk quickly turned to the possibility of a ‘threepeat’, if bodies had recovered in time for next season.

Meanwhile, Ashburton’s other highly-competitive Over 45s team, United, finished off their season in style, wining 3-0 to secure a respectable mid-table position.
